November 2017 - God is Faithful to Guide Us
My life's verse is, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV). What an amazing principle to guide me for more than 35 years since surrendering my life to Christ!
Trace His faithfulness in Scripture.
In Genesis 12:1, we see the call of God to Abram when the Lord said to him, Leave your country, your people, and your father’s household, and go to the land I will show you. Who was Abram? He was the son of Terah, who was a descendant of Shem, one of the sons of Noah. Abram was 75 years old when God gave him this directive, which he obeyed. He didn’t question or doubt that it was God speaking to him. He took the step of faith, believing in the faithfulness of God to show him the way.
When I think of the faithfulness of God’s direction, several verses immediately come to mind:
- I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with my eye (Psalm 32:8, KJV).
- Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21, NIV).
- The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; he guides it wherever he pleases (Proverbs 21:1, NLT).
God promises to guide us and teach us when we are humble. See Psalm 25:9 - He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way (NIV). In a cry for mercy and relief from his enemies, the psalmist David exclaimed, Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul (Psalm 143:8b, NIV).
God may send a person to actually be your guide.
I once sat waiting in a Paris train station trying to figure out how to get to the other station across the city. I opened my pocket New Testament and quickly prayed.
Suddenly, a French woman noticed me and said, “You are Christian?”
I said yes, and explained my situation.
She quickly said, “Follow me” because she knew exactly how to get to the other station in time to make my connection.
“Where did that person come from?” you ask. God sent her to be a guide right at the moment and at the exact place where direction was needed. God knew my need and faithfully sent someone to lead the way in an unfamiliar place.
He is a faithful God.
Are you going through a time of uncertainty? Do you need guidance or direction? Perhaps you must find a new place to live. Did you realize God knows the exact times and boundary lines of our habitations? (See Acts 17:26).
Are you praying for a peaceful place to live? See Isaiah 32:18. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest (NIV).
Do you dream of a pleasant place to live? See Psalm 16:6. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places (NIV).
Pray these Scriptures over your need. Believe God to answer your prayers. He is a faithful God.
Trust Him.
I often quote the verse found in Psalm 37:23, The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delights in his way (KJV). God takes pleasure in giving his children direction. This pleases God and helps me immeasurably! Why wouldn’t I want God to direct me?
Be open to allowing God to guide you whether to a new home, new job, new responsibility, or a new season in your life. The faithfulness of God is certain. Trust God. Put your hand in his. From time to time, look back over your life and remember specific examples when God’s faithfulness to lead you was evident. Purpose in your heart and mind to trust God’s faithfulness to guide you through your day. Peace and confidence will be your exceedingly great reward.
