International Women’s Day: A Christian Response for Women in Hard-to-Reach Places

International Women’s Day: A Christian Response for Women in Hard-to-Reach Places

For TWR Women of Hope, International Women’s Day is not only a cultural moment. It is an invitation to remember the women the world forgets.
TWR Woman of Hope Updates TWR Women of Hope

Every year on March 8, the world observes International Women’s Day — a global celebration of women’s achievements and a call to action for gender equality.

But while many celebrate progress, millions of women remain unseen, unheard and unreached.

For TWR Women of Hope, International Women’s Day is not only a cultural moment. It is an invitation to remember the women the world forgets.

We believe every woman deserves to hear she is seen, valued and deeply loved by Jesus.

The Global Reality Facing Women Today

Around the world, many women still face profound vulnerability:

  • According to WHO*, nearly 1 in 3 women globally experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
  • UNESCO reports that over 133 million girls worldwide are out of school and that women account for nearly two-thirds of the 765 million adults without basic literacy skills
  • The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime notes that women and girls account for the majority of identified trafficking victims globally.

It’s easy to shrug past a number— but behind every statistic is a name. A story. A woman created in the image of God.

In many of the regions where we serve, women face:

  • Forced marriage
  • Religious persecution
  • Social isolation
  • Limited access to education and healthcare
  • Deep spiritual darkness

And in some places, they cannot safely attend church — or even speak openly about their faith.

A Different Kind of Celebration

International Women’s Day often highlights empowerment through policy, leadership and opportunity.

These efforts matter.

But there is another kind of empowerment — one that begins in the heart.

When a woman hears, perhaps for the first time:

You are loved by God.
You have value.
You are not forgotten.

Everything changes.

Through culturally relevant radio programs, small-group listening communities and a global movement of prayer, women in hard-to-reach places are encountering the hope of the gospel. They are experiencing true life transformation in Jesus’ name.

And often, media is the only safe bridge to reach these women.

When Hope Reaches One Woman

In Nepal, one woman shared that before attending a sewing training hosted by Women of Hope, she had no source of income and often felt like a burden to her family.

But through the skills she learned, she was recently able to begin working at a small tailor shop near her home. For the first time, she was contributing financially to her household. With each small paycheck came something deeper than income — dignity.

Yet the transformation did not stop there.

“We prayed together, listened to the Word of God, and shared our stories,” she explained. “That’s when I was introduced to the Women of Hope radio program.”

Now a regular listener, she says the weekly messages remind her that God sees her, loves her, and has a purpose for her life — even in the small things.

“Spiritually and financially, my life is slowly changing. I give glory to God for this new beginning.”

This is what happens when hope reaches one woman.

Why Media and Prayer Matter

There are still many restricted or remote regions where missionaries cannot go. Churches may be monitored or women may be confined to their homes.

But radio signals cross borders.

Digital content travels quietly.

And prayer moves where we cannot see.

Through the ministry of TWR Women of Hope, women in more than 70 countries are hearing biblical truth in their own language — often in secret, often alone, but never unseen by God.

Our monthly prayer movement mobilizes thousands of intercessors around the world to pray specifically for the needs of women. This is not just symbolic support—this is where true transformation takes place. When God hears the prayers of his people, mountains are moved.

How Christians Can Respond on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day gives us a moment to pause and ask:

What does it look like to biblically support and empower women?

Here are three ways to respond:

1. Pray Intentionally

Download our prayer calendar to intercede with us for women around the world.

2. Learn About Women in Hard Places

Read stories of how God is moving through media and reaching women with his love.

3. Give to Share the Gospel

Your gift helps broadcast life-changing programs into places where women cannot freely gather or worship.

Our Vision for Women Worldwide

True hope for women is not rooted only in changing circumstances — though we pray for harmful policies and cultural norms to shift.

It is rooted in Christ.

On International Women’s Day, while the world celebrates progress, we remember the women still waiting to be seen.

We remember the woman listening quietly to a radio in the early morning hours.
The mother praying silently for her children.
The young girl longing for education and truth.

And we declare: She is not forgotten.

Stand With Her Today

This International Women’s Day, you can help ensure that another woman hears the life-changing message of Jesus.

Give hope.
Pray faithfully.
Stand courageously.

Because her voice matters — to us, and to God.
