TWR Women of Hope China

Chinese culture has traditionally placed a higher value on the male gender. Under the one-child policy (implemented between 1980 and 2016) when Chinese families were forced to limit the number of children, sons were preferred over daughters, leading to the shortage of young females today. With reference to official estimates of 2020, among young adults of marriageable age (20 to 24 years), there were almost 113 males to 100 females*. This enormous deficit of young Chinese females naturally led to several social, demographic and economic problems, including black markets for brides and increased age-gaps between spouses.

In general, employment for Chinese women has greatly improved over the years. Data show, however, that the unemployment rate of females is lower than that of the males*. The status of Chinese women in society and family is still under transformation, but many women and girls are still facing discrimination, inequality and even violence, especially in rural areas. The women in China need to hear the healing message of hope in Jesus.

TWR seeks to reach out to both Christian and pre-believing women in China with an integrated approach combining media programs and on-the-ground interaction. We seek to bring hope in Jesus to women in China across all ethnicities and generations. We ask you to give toward this effort to reach the women of China for Christ!
